Am I Schizophrenic?

Question:

My mother has a severe case of schizophrenia. I have several symptoms: I have thoughts that are always jumping continuously and at times O am in a stupor state and cannot conversate or watch a movie. I get upset really fast when I think too much and start a really stupid argument with my wife. I see people hiding from me and hear things that are not around. I believe my closest loved ones are always after and against me. I get anxiety attacks when I get in traffic and crowds. fI laugh all the time for no apparent reason. I seem to always show moods that show no emotion. Thanks

Answer:

It is never possible to provide a diagnosis over the Internet. However, I can give some advice based on the concerns and worries that you have presented.

It does seem as though you may possibly have some important symptoms of some type of psychotic illness. I am not saying this is correct but just a possibility. It could be that you are extemely depressed or that you have a bipolar disorder.

There is only one thing that I can state with confidence and it is that it would be a good idea for you to see you doctor, report your symptoms and have him refer you to a psychiatrist for a full evaluation. You need a full evaluation in order to determine the nature of the things that are bothering you. Once there is a diagnosis, even if it that you are suffering from stress and lack of sleep, then things can be done to help you.

I realize that you are worried because your mothers suffers from schizophrenia. However, that does not have to mean that you have it too. But, if the doctors do find that you also suffer from this disease, then you can be started on the road to controlling your symptoms and feeling much better.
