Ria Fyffe Freil, B.A. Chemistry, M.S. Addiction Studies — Contributor

Ria Fyffe Freil is currently pursuing her PhD at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She has always been interested in addiction as a mental health and medical disease, and thus chose to pursue her Master’s in Addiction Studies from VCU/King’s College/University of Adelaide. During the pursuit of this degree, she became more and more interested in pharmacotherapies that can help people suffering from addiction and wanted to begin writing articles that could help people learn about the disease and coping strategies or treatment option available to them. While she is unsure of what she will specialize in during my doctoral training, she's currently working with prescription opiates and oral self-administration protocols in genetically-engineered mice. One day, she hopes to contribute more to the field of addiction by way of basic sciences research, and perhaps develop new therapies and treatments to help those affected by addiction.
