Melissa DeCapua, DNP, PMHNP — Contributor

Dr. Melissa DeCapua is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who graduated from Vanderbilt University.  Her background includes child and adolescent psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine. Dr. DeCapua’s clinical career took her on a journey through the healthcare system, from inpatient to outpatient settings, managing the care of everyone from toddlers with autism to older adults with dementia. Her expertise lies in psychopharmacology and phototherapy for seasonal depression.

Upon completing a doctorate degree in nursing practice, Dr. DeCapua began consulting for health technology startups, including a continuing education company and telehealth company. As a product strategy consultant, she offers advisement to the executive leadership on healthcare systems and healthcare reform. Due in part to this work, she recently won the Seattle Health Innovator of the Year award.

In her free time, Dr. DeCapua enjoys oil painting, writing, and hiking. She is a strong advocate for empowering nurses, and she fiercely believes that nurses should play a pivotal role in shaping modern health care.
