Julia Cottle, Ph.D. — Contributor

Julia Cottle has a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California Davis. After finishing work on her graduate degree she served as a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California Davis School of Medicine. In that position she coordinated a two-year ethnographic research project on Latina caregivers of elderly family members with cognitive impairment. Julia has over twenty-five years of research experience in both academic and organizational settings. She also has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at universities in Ecuador, Mexico and the United States.

Dr. Cottle currently works as a medical interpreter at a rehabilitation institute and as a freelance translator, writer and editor. She contributes on a regular basis to several publications. In addition to her professional work in the medical field, Dr. Cottle also possesses a range of personal experience with alcohol use and substance abuse disorders. This experience has been a driving force behind her commitment to helping to alleviate their negative impacts and improve responses for both users and their loved ones.
