I based Liz’s experiences with automatisms on my own. Many years before I became psychotic, I had experienced similar strange, frightening things with ouija boards, but at that point in time, I was wise enough (or maybe just shaken up enough) to stop using them. This wasn’t so when I started using a makeshift ouija board for many hours each day, every day, for about four weeks, in the summer of 2006. It was only after that kind of regular activity that I became psychotic.
If automatisms were indeed what mucked me up, I’m sure glad that the resulting psychotic experience happened to me at an older age than when I was 15 – I think I would have been too weak to go on if I became that ill as a young teenager.
