I often did the same thing that Liz does in this comic – that is, withhold mentioning symptoms to my caregivers while in the hospital. I feared that I’d never get out if I told them about some of them. In one hospital ward, I even withheld mentioning that I felt dehumanized by the way my psychiatrist talked to my father in front of me as though I wasn’t there, fearing that if I complained, it would be considered a sign of “hostility” on my part. Ridiculous, some of the behaviours we patients had to tolerate from the very people dictating to us how we should behave!
