The British Journal of Sports Medicine just released a study that once again demonstrated the positive relationship between mood and exercise. In fact, the study states that just doing housework for twenty minutes a day is enough to boost mood.

The article makes the point that we are too oriented to taking medicines when we do not feel well. This is not meant to imply that people do not need anti depressant medications as well as other type. Rather, the point is made that we rush to pills way too quickly while dismissing exercise and diet as methods to improve physical and mental health. By all means, if a person continues to experience depression and anxiety regardless of exercise and diet then it is time to seek professional help.

For the rest of us twenty minutes of housework, walking, jogging, cycling or other types of exercise, can work wonders. I think that part of the problem is that we tell ourselves that we do not have enough time. Can we afford to have this attitude? We all go to work, raise children and have dozens of other activities to attend to on a daily basis.

The mistake that many of us make is believing that the absence of disease means health and that nothing bad can happen to us, such as heart disease, etc. On the contrary, if we do not take time to exercise, eat correctly and have leisure time, we will get sick. In other words, we cannot afford to not exercise and eat correctly.

Message: All of us need to get our priorities in order.
